STANDARD FOR KNABSTRUPPER HORSES:

The spotted Knabstrupper is an old Danish culture breed which by the "Knabstrupper Association for Denmark " is approved according to the following guidelines:

TYPE:

The Knabstrupper is in accordance with the Association rules and regulations 2 a horse of the riding type. It is to be found as: The Knabstrupper horse: A big framed and harmonic horse with good depth and width.

SIZE:

Knabstrupper horse over 148 cm. (14.2hh) in measurement.

COLOUR:

The most essential characteristic of the Knabstrupper is an unusual colour. The different colour variations can be much diversified. The amount of colour therefore has no influence on the judgment and selection classification. The minimum demand to the amount of colour: At the least there must be skin coloured spots around natural openings. Solid coloured stallions who only have skin coloured spots around natural openings cannot be selected. Stallions with blue/wall eyes or distinct rat tail cannot be selected. Horses or ponies which are distinctly piebald cannot be selected. Solid coloured mares with one Knabstrupper parent can be selected. Solid coloured pure bred stallions which scores 8 or above can be selected.

HEAD AND NECK:

The Knabstrupper horse has an expressive, noble head with big, clear and calm eyes and with plenty of clearance between the lower jaw and the start of the neck. The head well connected through a good flexible poll with a long, well proportioned well set neck.

SHOULDER AND WITHERS:

The Knabstrupper horse has a long and well sloped shoulder and well defined withers.

WITHERS, BACK AND LOIN:

The Knabstrupper horse has well defined withers smoothly connected through a strong back with short, muscular loins.

CROUP:

The Knabstrupper horse has a long, muscular slightly sloping croup with a well set tail and tail movement.

LEGS:

The Knabstrupper has appropriately strong, clean and well set legs. Well marked joints with good angles in hocks and pasterns. Plenty of bone with a smooth transition to the cannon bones. The cannon bones must be short and flat. The pasterns appropriately long and springy. Muscular upper legs and broad and deep hindquarter muscles. The hooves well formed with good horn quality.

THE MOVEMENT:

The Knabstrupper horse: Smooth forward moving from the shoulder with a good length of stride.

TEMPERAMENT:

The Knabstrupper horse: Must be lively and friendly.
